French distributor buys Iranian ‘Careless Crime’

A French company is to distribute Iranian ‘Careless Crime’.

French company Damned Films has bought the right to distribute Iranian director Shahram Mokri’s ‘Careless Crime’.

The company signed a deal with Dreamlab Films for distribution of the film in France, and overseas territories administered by France, Monaco and Andorra.

‘Careless Crime’ was internationally premiered on Tuesday at the Orizzonti section of the 77th Venice Film Festival in Italy.

Going back to forty years ago, the movie’s story starts during the uprising to overthrow the Shah’s regime in Iran.

Then, protestors set fire to movie theaters as a way of showing opposition to Western culture and burned down many cinemas.

In one tragic case, a theater was set on fire with four hundred people inside and most of them were burned alive.

Now in contemporary Iran, after forty years, four individuals also decide to burn down a movie theater.

They have targeted a movie theater which is showing a film about an unearthed, unexploded missile.

Produced by Negar Eskanadarfar and Karnameh Institute of Arts and Culture, Babak Karimi, Razieh Mansouri and Abolfazl Kahani are on the cast list of ‘Careless Crime’.

Damned Films is a regular customer of Mokri’s films. The French distributor formerly bought his ‘Fish and Cat’ and ‘Invasion’.

Dreamlab Films, the France-based international distributor under Iranian film expert Nasrin Mirshab, is in charge of the international sales of ‘Careless Crime’.
